Many pet owners permit their pets to reside inside their homes but some prefer a separate house for their dogs. With a few simple rules in mind, they can put up a shelter or dog kennel any dog would be proud to own.
The kennel should be built keeping the dog’s full-grown size in mind. The entrance should be high enough to prevent the dog having to lower its shoulders or scrape its belly to get in or out. Measure the pet in all dimensions, standing, sitting, lying down and make sure there is enough breathing and moving space all around so the pet doesn’t feel claustrophobic. The dog kennel should be raised enough above ground-level to permit an air and water passage underneath. Ventilation is important. Drill a few holes in the walls under the eaves. A wind-block inside the kennel would keep the pet warm in cold weather. A partial wall inside could help in this regard. The dog kennel could be made rain-proof with a slanting roof and the floor made to slant towards the door. The door should be positioned facing away from the general wind-blowing direction to keep out storms. With pet insurance and all these safeguards in place, a pet should be very happy in its doggie home.
