A seven-year-old Collie has been chosen as an ambassador for a major new campaign aimed at highlighting the benefits of taking a rescue animal in as a pet dog. Claudia, who has been staying at the Dogs Trust's centre in Kenilworth for five years, making her by far its longest-serving resident, is being featured as part of the Independent's new Christmas Gift Guide. According to the newspaper, too many people still believe giving a dog as a Christmas present is a good idea, even though in many cases this leads to unwanted animals being handed over to charities, sometimes after just a few weeks. However, for those people who have done their research and know that a dog would make a good gift, the Independent has pointed to the benefits of giving a rescue dog such as Claudia a second chance as a pet dog in a loving home. The paper also advised: "If owning a dog proves impractical then you might want to consider becoming a sponsor and donating a gift to make sure another dog is looked after." The Dogs Trust was founded back in 1891 and today has more than 600,000 members and supporters.
