Pet owners warned of dangers of feeding animals treats E-mail
New research has revealed that over indulgent pet owners could face hefty vets' bills after treating their cats and dogs to potentially life-threatening treats over Christmas.

The study, conducted by AA, showed that one in five Brits were oblivious to the fact that chocolate can be harmful to their pet's health.

While, 67.2 per cent of those claimed they were unaware that nuts could be extremely harmful.

AA Insurance product manager Karen Jakes commented on the findings, saying: "Owners [must] understand that cats and dogs have different digestive systems.

"Prevention is better than cure, so try to keep poisonous foods out of reach of those greedy pooches throughout the year."

Pet owners received warnings prior to the Christmas festivities about overfeeding animals and the repercussions it could have not only on their health, but on bank balances too.

Those without pet insurance in particular could find themselves facing bills of several hundred pounds after a minor treatment from a vet.
