Battling pooch helps launch new pet cancer centre E-mail
A brave pet pooch who overcame the odds to perform a star turn at last year's Crufts has helped mark the opening of a new £3 million centre to treat animals with cancer.

Many pet insurance claims arise each year as a result of the disease, which affects around one in three dogs and one in five cats, and the centre is designed to help improve treatments and survival rates.

Cancer-beating dog Scrooble this week helped launch the new cancer care unit - located at Edinburgh University's Royal Veterinary School - providing proof that the treatments really do work.

The seven-year-old Border Collie underwent a gruelling eight-month course of chemotherapy to beat the disease in 2008 and has since gone on to wow crowds at Crufts with his speed in the agility finals.

It is hoped the new care unit will give more pets like him a new lease of life and improve understanding of cancer treatment in cats and dogs.

This comes after the UK's first mobile blood bank for dogs hit the road last month in a bid to attract more doggy donors and ensure there is enough blood for pets who need it.

Animal Friends Pet Insurance are specialist pet insurers who have been insuring Dogs and Cats in the UK since 1999, we are your first choice for Ethical Insurance.
