Beth Woodhouse-Smith donates to Nowzad Dogs
At Animal Friends we employ a system whereby each manger of a department (Sales, Customer Service and Claims) is able to submit a member of their team as ‘Employee of the Month’. This person is then awarded £1,000 to be donated to an animal welfare charity of their choosing.
Our third, but certainly by no means last, employee of the month for June 2011 was Beth Woodhouse-Smith from our Claims department. Beth takes enormous pride in her work and can be relied upon to complete multiple tasks with the upmost diligence and focus. Her overall performance has been very impressive along with her ‘can-do’ positive working attitude. Beth has recently married and despite the hectic schedule that comes with organising a marriage she has still found the time to work extra hours in order to help her team. Other departments here at Animal Friends have also utilised her many skills and have praised her for assistance.
Beth has decided to donate her £1,000 to Nowzad Dogs, a charity that rescues dogs, cats and other animals from war torn countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan and tries to find loving homes for them. It also exists to promote animal welfare and to assist in the vital animal aid work that is so desperately needed in these countries.
This charity was founded in 2007 by Sgt Paul ‘Penny’ Farthing after his service with 42 Commando of the Royal Marines in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2006, whilst serving in a town named Now Zad in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan, he stopped a dog fight and befriended one of the dogs in question. He named him Nowzad and from that moment on started to rescue dogs from around the country, the tales of which can be read in his published book ‘One Dog at a Time’ and comes thoroughly recommended by Beth.
A picture of Pen with some of the dogs he is helping can be seen below.

Beth has been captured by Pen’s efforts and made this statement:
“Well done on all the wonderful work you have done and continue to do on a daily basis. It’s a pleasure to be able to donate the money to such a worthwhile charity. I endeavour to read No Place Like Home at some point too as I loved One Dog at a Time and I’m keen to discover what happened next!!”
Pen is delighted with the donation made by Animal Friends and had this message of thanks:
“Nowzad Dogs would like to say a fantastic thank you to Bethny Smith for nominating Nowzad Dogs to receive her employee of the month donation from Animal Friends Insurance. As a charity we are determined to make a difference for the dogs and other animals of Afghanistan that do not have a voice but ours and the Animal Friends Insurance donation will go a long way to support our work in Afghanistan in promoting; a humane trap neuter release programme, animal welfare education and companion animal rescues. Together we can make a difference. Thank you Bethny and Animals Friends Insurance.”
We here at Animal Friends are over-the-moon that Beth chose such a worthwhile charity and hope that our donation can help Nowzad Dogs with all their great work.
