Pet insurance customers have again been warned of the dangers of leaving their canine companions in hot cars and buildings following a number of tragic incidents in recent days. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSCPA) last week issued a reminder to owners about the risk that rising summer temperatures can pose to their pets, but it seems many are failing to heed the warning. According to the animal charity, several pets have lost their lives to the blistering heat this week, while officers have been "inundated" with calls from concerned members of the public about dogs trapped in hot environments. It fielded a total of 109 calls on Monday of this week as temperatures topped 30 degrees, prompting experts to reiterate their plea to pet owners not to put their dogs' lives at risk. RSPCA chief veterinary adviser Mark Evans said: "This is not a new warning, but sadly too many people still don't appreciate how dangerous it can be to leave a dog in a hot car." The message was also echoed by the Kennel Club this week after the Met Office issued a heatwave warning across large parts of the country.
