The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has lent its support to proposed changes to the Dangerous Dogs Act which would make owners more responsible for their pets' behaviour.Under the ten minute rule bill put forward by Labour MP Angela Smith yesterday (Wednesday), pet insurance customers could face legal action if their dog injures or attacks someone in a private home or garden, as well as in public places. The charity claimed that this amendment to the current act marks "a step in the right direction" by putting greater legal emphasis on owners instead of their pets. RSPCA government relations manager Claire Robinson said: "In so many instances, the biggest problem of all is with the person at the other end of a dog's lead, rather than the animal itself." The news comes after police in Warwickshire this week appealed to the public to help trace the owner of a large Bull mastiff dog which has attacked a number of other pets and their owners in recent months.
