Angry pet insurance customers have called for tougher measures to be introduced to help deal with yobs who shoot cats and other animals with airguns. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals last week revealed that it has already dealt with 300 cases of airgun attacks this year, with that figure expected to rise during the summer months. Owner Chris Bailey, whose poor moggy Cookie lost a leg after being targeted twice by thugs in the space of two months, claimed more should be done to find and prosecute the people responsible. Speaking to the Gloucestershire Echo, Mr Bailey said: "People who do this are barbaric and insane. They should get tougher treatment." Fellow cat lover Jan Trury's pet was also shot near his home last year, costing the family more than £1,000 to have the animal treated by vets. "People don't understand the impact it has," he stated. The comments come after a Scottish family were left facing a £345 vet bill when their cat Tiger required lifesaving surgery following an assault which left him with a broken leg, the Ayrshire Post reported.
