 Many celebrities chose dog adoption over buying from a pet store - and Oprah Winfrey is one of them. The celebrity reportedly bought two, 14-week-old Springer spaniels for her 56th birthday from PAW Chicago animal shelter. According to People magazine, the pets, Sunny and Lauren, were picked up just in the nick of time. "They could have been euthanised if they weren't adopted. Can you believe that?" she queried of the live studio audience. Oprah introduced the pooches to them on her show, saying: "I want you to meet my two new babies." The star already has five pets, which include another cocker spaniel named Sadie. Oprah is such a proponent of shelter animals ownership that her website has an "Adopting a Pet" section where fans can get advice and read the celebrity's own stories about life with her furry friends.
