The RSPCA has been on standby in Cumbria to carry out dog rescue operations in flood-affected areas, it has been revealed.Whitehaven News reported that the charity has been out and about looking for pooches and other animals lost as a result of the recent high rainfall. However, the organisation started out by helping to rescue people, as its officers are trained to the same level of the emergency services. Once the charity had done what it could to save individuals and families in danger, its staff then turned their attention to missing pets. Chief officer Tim Wass commented: "It's the first time that we've had the whole of our national team on standby and deployed 60 of them." In one incident, the group rescued Mr and Mrs Parks from a first-floor flat, before going back to retrieve their two pet cats. Meanwhile, News & Star reported that the floods in Cumbria triggered a rescue operation at the Pets Lifeline charity in Crosthwaite Gardens, which was looking after about 20 fully-grown moggies, 11 kittens, three dogs, a rat and two guinea pigs.
