Boxer saves duo from house blaze E-mail
A clever canine has been credited with saving the lives of his owners after alerting them to a house blaze - just in the time for them to escape the burning building.

Ciaran McGuigan said his Boxer dog raised the alarm after a fire broke out at his home in Donegal, Ireland early on Wednesday morning.

The relieved owner said he and his friend had been sleeping as the flames ripped through the property - and were only awoken by the determination of their canine companion, allowing them to flee the building with only seconds to spare.

Mr McGuigan said: "What woke me was the dog barking and by that time the whole place was on fire."

"I managed to get out and then I went back in for Billy and he came out ok."

The incident comes after three pet dogs in Plymouth had a narrow escape when they were caught up in a house fire while their owner was away.

Two of the animals had been shut in the fume-filled kitchen to prevent them from running away and firefighters had to work for 20 minutes to resuscitate the plucky pooches, the Plymouth Herald reported.
