Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre, is a small sanctuary for exotic animals and birds of prey. As well as a hospital unit for the treatment of wild raptors (not on display), the centre is home to over 30 different species of birds of prey, primates, reptiles, invertebrate, raccoons and cats. The centre started by rescuing and providing a home for just a few unwanted animals and birds, after a while the centre soon began to take in more and more rescued animals before eventually opening to the public as a visitor centre.

The centre aims to rehabilitate all the animals that come into it’s care with the aim of reintroducing them back into the wild. Some of the animals taken in have never seen their own kind before, this can have terrible effects on species such as primates as they are naturally sociable. Some animals have not been fed the correct food, others have been kept in the wrong type of housing whilst some of the birds come in never having been able to stretch their wings or see daylight.

Animal Friends Pet Insurance has donated to Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre through our Employee Of The Month scheme, the charity also received funds by taking part in the older version of our ‘Vote For a Charity’ competition.
