Born Free

From small beginnings, the Born Free Foundation has grown into a global force for wildlife.  They work towards preventing individual animal suffering, protect threatened species and keep wildlife in the wild sets us apart from the rest.

As human populations expand, wildlife comes under increasing threat.  Born Free is determined to try to halt the race to extinction by protecting rare species in their natural habitat.  Working with local communities, they find compassionate solutions so people and wildlife can live together.  Educational activities inspire young and old alike to respect the wild. Their high-profile campaigns take effective action and provide animals with a voice.

Their major international projects are devoted to animal welfare, conservation and education, and protect lions, elephants, gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers, polar bears, wolves, dolphins, turtles, sharks and lots more.

Animal Friends is delighted to work with the Born Free Foundation and we have supplied the funding for a safe enclosure to be erected to protect the orphaned chimps in the Cameroon. At present, Born Free have rescued around 40 rescued chimpanzees. This new facility will have a large outdoor area (funded by Animal Friends) and an indoor area and will allow Limbe to keep their doors open and take in more orphaned chimps and give them the care they need.

Here is an extract from the Born free Website:

“Thanks to all the support received for Limbe – the in-house appeals we’ve done, Rachel Hunter, Co-op Bank, Animal Friends Pet Insurance and the Kinnerton Chocolate company – work has now begun on a new home for rescued chimpanzees in Cameroon”.
