The Jim Brown Animal Care Foundation
JBF (Scotland) and JBF (India) have been working together to help relieve the suffering of many of Delhi's cows and buffalo. There are around 30,000 cattle in the city of Delhi, many of them stray or abandoned or owned by people too poor to afford private vet care. The animals are suffering from many different illnesses and injuries
Street and stray cattle face the same problems. Injury, malnutrition, starvation and disease are all common. Although the street cows do receive some care from their owners, professional veterinary care is not available because of the cost involved. JBF aims to redress the problems relating to poor standards of cattle husbandry by supplying professional veterinary care linked with an on-going programme of advice and demonstrations. They raise awareness of better welfare standards for the cattle with such things as co-ordinated vaccine and worming programmes. This does not only enhance the lives of the animals but will also make the owned cows more productive and improve the lives of the people too.
Animal Friends through sponsership pays the wages of a vet specifically to help care for these cattle.
