The mission of Sussex-based SHADH founded by Lucy Fensom, is to promote the importance of basic welfare of donkeys in the Holy Land and wherever possible to teach compassion to achieve long-term changes for the better. Donkeys have been famously used in the Holy Land as beasts of burden for 5,000 years and very little value is attached to their well being. They can be bought for as little as £16 and many stray donkeys suffer from direct abuse and torture. SHADH contacted us to see if we could help with funding to buy much needed food for their rescued Donkeys in Israel. We had heard of Lucy’s work helping animals for many years so we quickly jumped at the chance to help her. Whilst we can assist with money, Lucy is the real hero working tirelessly to help abused Donkeys in a very difficult and dangerous part of the world. We therefore hope that many other people will support Lucy’s essential work to help these gentle creatures. Stop Press: We have just paid a large proportion of the purchase of a Bobcat Digging Machine which Lucy desperately needs to muck out 100+ donkeys and help with flooding at the Sanctuary. “I am writing on behalf of Robert Silver and everyone at Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land to thank you so much for your extremely generous donation of £4,000 towards the cost of purchasing a “Bobcat” for use at the Sanctuary in Israel. Lucy is so excited about being able to buy this machine, which will save her and her colleagues a great deal of time and effort, and we are so grateful to you for helping to make this possible”.
