Cat insurance shoppers may find the cuddling and the laughs they get from their pet moggies are beneficial for their health.

One woman has described the positively "therapeutic" effect adopted cats had on her late husband, who was ill.
Linda Ekelman described in Patriot News how much good a trio of felines did her husband, who suffered from dementia.

She adopted a kitten from a shelter, which quickly formed a bond with her partner, climbing on his shoulders and nuzzling his chin.

"He developed a real affection for the cat," she remarked.

Unfortunately, this moggy had to be put down following a healthcare complication.

Mrs Ekelman got two more kittens before her husband passed away and she believes both were constructive in helping them both a better life, as the cats served as a distraction and a comfort to Mr Ekelman.

One organisation that is campaigning for domestic companion animals to be allowed to live in most care homes is the Society for Companion Animal Studies.

It states that having a furry friend, especially their own, can help the physical and mental wellbeing of residents.
