Cumbria animals to receive emergency healthcare after floods E-mail
Those pets and strays affected by the flooding in Cumbria could receive emergency healthcare from one welfare charity.

Some 60 specially-trained volunteers will reinforce the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals' current field staff to provide urgent treatment for emergency-related illnesses in areas such as Workington, Kendal and Keswick.

Farmers and pet owners were urged by the organisation to move their furry friends to safety in the event their region is affected by the rains.

The RSPCA said it was treating the floods as a national emergency.

It warned its national cruelty line - 0300 1234 9999 - would only be able to deal with urgent welfare issues for the duration of the special deployment, which is expected to last four days.

The charity has previously advised those not yet affected by flooding should nonetheless plan their possible escape routes and organise food supply and pet care equipment in advance.
