If your pet dog or cat needs veterinary treatment for any one of a number of common diseases or is inflicted by a life threatening illness, the cost of treatment could run into many thousands of pounds. UK Veterinary care is expensive! Pet insurance is there to protect you from such disasters and also provide a lifeline to your pet as you may not necessarily be able to afford the best treatment at the time.

In the unhappy circumstances of a relationship break-up, do not forget to also consider the feelings of your pet.

buy labrador insuranceRecent studies have shown that pets, like children, are prone to post-break up trauma. Some pets can suffer from emotional problems such as compulsive disorders as a consequence of their owners breaking- up, and Britain’s high separation rates are not helping.

According to senior vet at PDSA, Sean Wesley, animals too have emotions and hence emotional distress caused by break ups is not unusual. Sean Wesley urges pet owners to consider the fate and health of their pets as an integral part of their break up process.

Compulsive disorders are exhibited by animals such as dogs that start chasing their tails or may resort to excessive licking of their limbs. This can cause the particular area to become itchy and raw which may eventually result in dermatitis.

In cats, the disorder can be seen through excessive chewing or sucking on blankets or other wool items, while other animals like parrots go to the extent of pulling off their feathers causing themselves considerable physical pain and harm.

It is a harsh fact to face, but if you are about to split, you should think about who would be responsible for the vet's fees should your pet develop physical problems after the break-up. If you do not have adequate cover in place, this may be a time to consider buying pet insurance.

Sean further elaborates by saying that pets and young children are not much different on an emotional level since both do not understand the situation and hence are highly prone to severe behavioural and psychological issues which are not resolved easily.

Sean pleads owners to be more understanding and think about their pets when separating.
