Is Buying Pet Insurance Really Worth It?

If your pet dog or cat needs veterinary treatment for any one of a number of common diseases or is inflicted by a life threatening illness, the cost of treatment could run into many thousands of pounds. UK Veterinary care is expensive! Pet insurance is there to protect you from such disasters and also provide a lifeline to your pet as you may not necessarily be able to afford the best treatment at the time.

The world would be a better place if we could all be as loving and unbiased as animals can be. It seems that pet dogs, cats and other domesticated animals nursing a litter of their own have a natural instinct to nurture and foster other babies no matter the species. If more people had this fostering instinct we would live in a place where prejudice and cruelty would be a rarity. There would be fewer homeless animals and people who were abandoned for one reason or another.

pink the pigletTake for example the story of a Dachshund dog that had a litter of her own and became a foster mum to a new born pig, which later became named Pink. Pink’s mum was unable to take care of him. The young piglet didn’t even have its eyes open yet and would have died if not for the unselfishness of the nurturing Dachshund.

She accepted him as her own and nursed and cared for Pink. Actually, she favored him and he was the cleanest little pig in the litter because she spent hours bathing him. He flourished under her care and soon had his eyes open. Even though Pink will soon outweigh his foster mum there will always be a special bond between them.

Some think it is a natural born instinct to nurture and some say it is because they can’t tell the difference. Most animals have a keen sense of smell so you would have to assume that they could tell the difference. Personally I think it is a natural instinct to provide for other animals in need, albeit an instinct that has been sadly suppressed by many humans.

We can all learn a valuable lesson from the Dachshund and the pig. All abandoned newborns and infants no matter what race or species are helpless and defenseless. Without the love and care of a nurturing foster parent they would not survive. We as a society can make the world a better place to live if we open our arms and foster the needy whether human or animal.
