Fun Games to Play with Your Cat

trd030ca0068.jpg

There are many different fun games you can play with your cat. Some of the best cat toys are free. However, they do involve a level of interaction with your cat. Most people know that kittens love to play, but adult cats also like to play. Some people assume as the cat gets older and more independent that they would rather be left alone. Usually in most cases this is not true; I find almost all my cats no matter their age like to chase, swat, and pounce on things!

You can entertain your cat for hours with simple things that you have in your home. There is no need to buy expensive toys. Cats love to play with anything that is small and lightweight that will move when they swat at it, such as a crumpled piece of paper or aluminum foil. I have found that my cats love to play with the bottle cap off of a bottle of water or twisty ties that come with plastic bags.

Another fun game is to take a small ball or crumpled piece of paper and tie a piece of string or yarn to the end and walked around with the ball dragging on the floor. Your cats love to run and chase after it. Another variation to this is to take a string with something on the end and hold it in the air above them and they will jump and try to catch it.

I have also found cats and kittens love to play with tissue wrapping paper, plastic or paper bags. If you have more than one cat you will enjoy watching them hiding and playing in the paper bag and the other cats pouncing on them. Most cats can't resist climbing into a paper grocery bag.

Another game to play with your cats involves using a torch or laser pointer pen. You turn on the flashlight or pen and shine the light on the wall or floor. Your cat will chase the beam of light no matter where it goes. This is a game that will give you tons of laughs and your cat lots of exercise.

On a more cautious note...

If you have children around who just love to leave their stuff in random places, do be careful that your cat does not take a fancy to anything that could be dangerous. Recently our cat found something underneath a cabinet and was batting it around frantically and not a little noisily. She then took her game up a level by picking it up in her mouth and taking it to another part of the room, and batting it under a chair, then taking it to another corner, and so on... It turned out to be one of our daughter's marbles - and while our cat was obviously have a lot of fun, we had to take it away, as neither of us fancied a midnight trip to the animal hospital for a marble lodged in her throat!

While cats are pretty smart creatures and will rarely put themselves at risk, accidents can happen - even when playing - so always make sure that you don't use makeshift toys which could pose a danger if swallowed or otherwise. It's a wise move to ensure you have good pet insurance in place in case of such mishaps!

Animal Friends Insurance is a not for profit organisation which gives all of its net profits from Pet Insurance policies to charities all over the world who help animals in need. So this means if you were to buy pet insurance from them you would not only be providing for your pet, you would also be helping animal charities all over the world.
