Siamese Cats

The Siamese cat is one of the most easily recognizable breeds that exist. They have a multi colored short haired coat that is cream to tan in color with black markings. This is a beautiful breed of cat with a noble personality that likes to be spoiled. Perhaps the oldest breed of cat known, Siamese speak loudly with their meows, and make themselves known as they always strive to be in your lap, bed, and wherever else you may be.

Origin of the Siamese Cat
Although the no one knows exactly when and where the Siamese cat originated from, they are believed to originally be from Southeast Asia and one of the breeds originated at the temple in Siam which is now known as Thailand. Siamese made the travel to England when they were first given as a gift to an ambassador from Siam and brought home. They did not start showing up in cat shoes within England and throughout Europe until shortly thereafter, and did not make it to American cat shows until the Twentieth Century.

Appearance
There are several different colors of Siamese cats, but they all have a lighter body color complimented by darker points on their extremities including their nose, ears, paws, and tail. Seal point Siamese are the most commonly known and seen variety, with seal brown bodies with close lying hair and dark brown points that are almost black. These were the first variety to ever been seen in England, and then others followed.

In 1934 the blue point was officially recognized, with a bluish white body color and dark blue points and eyes. The chocolate point became known soon after with milky white body and chocolate brown points. Last was the lilac point in 1955 with a white body and points that are pink and grey.

The head of the Siamese is a wedge when viewed from the front and the ears round it out. Long pointed ears, a long pointed head, and longer legs or extremities make this a distinct breed. They have a very close grown coat, and a strong muscular body on top of their powerful legs.

Temperament
Most Siamese are true people cats and crave attention from wherever they can get it. If you are doing something then they will want to be near you. There are also some Siamese who are skittish and do not easily get used to people. This entire breed is especially vocal, and communicates both with their loud meowing and body language.

If you are looking for a social breed of cat with distinct and regal features, then you could not pick a more perfect breed than the Siamese. Their ancient history and distinct markings have made them a favorite among pet owners in the UK and across the globe.
