Chickens may make good pets

Ethical insurance customers looking for both a challenge and a new friend might consider keeping chickens.
According to pet health care professional Dr Patty Khuly, writing for USA Today, there are plenty of advantages to this type of creature companion.
Not only do the birds provide love and entertainment, their eggs are invariably fresher and more delicious than store-bought products, she claimed.
"They're also superior when you consider environmental sustainability and animal welfare," she added, indicating that owners who know exactly how their feathered friends have been raised and bred do not have to worry about whether they have been mistreated.
Furthermore, they can rest assured as to the chemical processes that the eggs might have undergone.
Those who are intrigued by Dr Khuly's comments might try getting in touch with a rescue organisation such as the British Hen Welfare Trust, which saves battery chickens and rehomes them in a safe place.
The charity recently celebrated the milestone of its 200,000th rescue in June of this year.
