Owner says dog training really works

Friday, 27 August 2010 20:22

An owner has praised his methods of dog training for calming his two puppies, Phoebe and Connor, down to the extent where they obey him out on walks.

Writing for his pet health care column on New Zealand news provider website Stuff, Nick Barnett said he noticed the change in his female pooch when they were taking the air on a hike.

Instead of spooking at random sights or pulling at the lead, she was well-behaved - and Mr Barnett has also witnessed alterations in his younger canine's behaviour as well, as Connor is getting along better with the cat and being more submissive to authority figures.

"I've been more consistent about training him and not letting him get away with things we don't like - leaping at us and grabbing clothes with his teeth, for example," he said.

Meanwhile, other owners concerned about their dog's rambunctious behaviour might see benefits by taking them to a professional rather than trying to train them on their own.
