The tale of a feline tail

Tuesday, 31 August 2010 19:26

Those of us in the process of buying cat insurance may have spent a lot of time observing our feline friends over the past several days - and one thing that could catch an owner's attention is the movement of their feline's tail.

This feature is an important one to any kitty, helping their balance but also used as a flagpole of communication to other moggies, animals and humans.

Dr Deborah Lee Pickett, writing for the Reading Eagle, noted that owners can tell a lot about a cat's mood by the position of their tail - if it is held vertically, the creature is feeling confident and friendly and swishing implies the animal is relaxed and calm.

However, if it between their legs, this is a submissive pose, while quick flicking can indicate displeasure.

"Rapid flicking, which sometimes progresses to thumping, means [the cat is] agitated and getting angry," Dr Pickett explained.

As one of the biggest independent cat insurance providers in the UK, Animal Friends Insurance products are available to buy online or the phone ( 0844 70 50 300 ). We offer a wide range of affordable cat insurance options to suit all budgets from accident only policies to full lifetime cover.
