Pet adoption encouraged as cat centre considers closure

Wednesday, 1 September 2010 16:48

Pet adoption from an animal shelter in Hampshire may be impossible in 12 months' time, as the facility is running out of money.

The Southern Daily Echo reports that Lymington Cat & Kitten Rescue Centre needs to find new funding soon, or it will have to close.

At the moment it houses 67 felines, for which the cost of litter, veterinary bills and food is approximately £1,500 per week.

Founder Janette Frankland told the newspaper that unless a solution is created, the site will "be in serious trouble".

"It's a heartbreaking prospect and we need to pull out all the stops to keep going," she added.

Another cat and dog rescue centre recently in the news was the Asheville Humane Society in the US state of North Carolina.

The facility decided to waive its pet adoption fee in a bid to attract willing owners, before it moves premises this month.
