Cat returns home after five months thanks to microchip

Thursday, 2 September 2010 13:02

Cat health insurance could be useful if a pet goes missing and requires veterinary treatment on its return.

One feline who recently received a warm welcome home was Kitty, who strayed from her owner's house in Preston and was not seen for five months.

According to the RSPCA, Pat Gibson tried in vain to find her beloved cat, but to no avail.

So, she was very surprised to receive a call from the charity's Enfield and District Branch in Brimsdon, Middlesex, where Kitty had been found and handed in.

Her microchip provided the details needed to find Ms Gibson.

"It's like having her back from the dead," she explained. "I would recommend microchipping to all pet owners."

The RSPCA - which last month called for willing people to take on one of the many abandoned cats in England and Wales - also advises that this procedure is very reliable should a furry friend go missing.

And for those worried about the effect it has on pet health care, the organisation maintains that the process is quick and completely painless.
