Cat found in drain but emerges unscathed

Pet health care is often needed after a cat or dog rescue mission - but one feline that recently became stuck emerged completely unscathed.

Toot, a seven-year-old tabby, was trapped in a network of drain pipes in Newton Stewart, the Scottish SPCA said.

The organisation was called to help when a resident of the area's Main Street heard cat noises from beneath her conservatory.

Once some of the floorboards and concrete had been pulled up, the team were unable to access Toot and he moved further away.

Eventually, the cat's owner Louise Kerr arrived at the scene and her voice lured the cat out of an open manhole.

She said: "Anytime he's gone missing in the past I've found him down at the harbour stuck in the lobster creels, but after hours of searching he was nowhere to be seen and I was starting to get quite worried."

Ms Kerr added that Toot was not injured - just hungry.

Many cat insurance policies include cover should the pet go missing, so any worried owners might benefit from seeking out a suitable plan.
