Missing cat found 70 miles away

Wednesday, 13 April 2011 12:36

All of us here at Animal Friends Pet Insurance love a story with a happy ending, and today we would like to share one with you concerning an adventurous cat.

Essie, a four-year-old, went missing from her home in Norwich on 24th March.

She was discovered two weeks later by staff at a freight facility in Peterborough in Cambridgeshire.  No-one knows for sure what happened to Essie, but she is believed to have stowed away on board a lorry.

Essie and her owner, Linda Mortimer, were reunited after the RSPCA scanned her microchip.

This is not the first time Essie has disappeared from her home but Mrs Mortimer said that the family's other cats "usually find her and bring her home."

"I've had all three of my cats micro-chipped and it has saved Essie twice now," she said.

"I don't think we would have found her this time, otherwise."

Why not have a word with your vet if your pet hasn't been micro-chipped. It only takes a few seconds to do and doesn't hurt them. It could make all the difference if your pet goes missing, especially if you have a particularly inquisitive cat like Ellie!
