Gunman sought after pet dog dies

Monday, 6 September 2010 12:44

The killer of a pet dog in the US state of Georgia is being sought, as his other victim struggles to stay alive.

This is according to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), which announced its intention to reward information that leads to the conviction of whoever was responsible for the attack.

Citing a report from the Johnson County sheriff's department, the organisation said the two dogs were shot in Wrightsville in an apparently random incident.

The puppy that did not survive was a small, black hound-mix, while the other - a brown pit bull - has been named Hope by its carers.

HSUS Georgia's state director Cheryl McAuliffe explained: "There is no excuse for wounding or killing defenceless animals like these two dogs.

"We hope our reward will help find the perpetrator of this horrible crime."

Unfortunately, the case is not unique - last month saw a canine in Toronto shot with an arrow.

Four-year-old Eddie survived after six hours of surgery.
