Goat put to sleep after horrific attack

Ethical insurance policyholders are likely to be horrified by a recent attack in Manchester involving a goat so badly injured he had to be put to sleep.
The RSPCA is now appealing for information about the incident, which saw 19-year-old black pygmy goat Sidney preyed upon at the Tennyson Horse and Pony Sanctuary.
His horns were pulled out, one leg was broken and the other dislocated. The animal welfare charity said it was one of the worst cases of cruelty ever seen.
Inspector Caroline Hall said putting Sidney to sleep was the kindest option, due to his severe wounds.
John Starkey, co-owner of the sanctuary, added: "He was so friendly ... lots of people who live around here used to come and feed Sid, and will be very upset to hear what has happened to him."
The RSPCA is encouraging anyone who can shed light on the attack to call 0300 1234 999.
It also launched an appeal last month for any help with its unsolved cases, such as a gull shot with a crossbow in Denbighshire and the four kittens abandoned on a dual carriageway in Basingstoke.
