Glee star Lea Michele holds animal welfare close to her heart

Wednesday, 1 September 2010 14:19

Animal welfare and dog rescue are two causes close to the heart of Glee star Lea Michele.

The actress, who this weekend missed out on an Emmy for her role as Rachel Berry, told People she once found six stray kittens during filming at Paramount Studios.

Fearing they would be eaten, she managed to give the felines loving homes; one went to co-star Heather Morris, three to the show's directors and two right back to Michele's house in Los Angeles.

"I'm a really big animal lover," she explained. "My mother always said 'Stand for something or [you'll] fall for everything'. I feel like [animals] don't have a voice."

Michele also relayed how she once found a lone dog tied to a fence in Long Beach, California, so she made Glee's producers take him to the vet. The pooch eventually found a welcoming owner in the form of Harry Shum, who plays Mike Chang in the series.

The interview with People comes at the same time it has been reported that the actress is to be honoured by Peta. USA Today stated that the animal welfare group is to mark Michele's contribution to its cause later in the month.

Animal Friends Insurance Services are an ethical pet insurance company. We have been supporting animal welfare charities around the world since 1999 by donating all net profits to their causes.
