Dog rescue case ends in happiness for rehomed pets

A dog rescue case has ended in happiness for most of the 300 animals at the centre of the incident.
The Humane Society of the United States said the three dogs and the puppies they gave birth to in "deplorable conditions" are now receiving love and companionship in the homes of caring owners.
They were all taken from an alleged puppy mill in North Carolina, run by a woman who is due to appear in court facing 12 charges of animal cruelty.
Numerous canines rescued from the site were in critical condition, with many having sustained skin and eye infections, ringworm or injuries from chain collars.
However, the majority are now safe and sound.
One of them - Nonie, a Maltese - had dislocated knees and lost a lot of fur, but when she was visited at a shelter by a willing couple, it was "love at first sight".
The HSUS added: "Today, Nonie is a new dog ... [she] now knows what it means to go for a walk. Her favourite activity, however, seems to be the simple pleasure of a good tummy rub."
Puppy mills lead to numerous behaviour and pet health care problems, the organisation concluded, but many "unwitting" buyers do not realise these are where their new companion originated from.
