Why pet adoption could be right for you

Pet adoption could be a good way to find a furry friend this year, as well as help out your local animal shelter.
This is according to Wendy Diamond, author of It's a Dog's World: The Savvy Guide to Four-Legged Living.
Excerpts from this book were recently posted on MSNBC's website and one of them recommended considering pet adoption as a way to give an animal that "desperately" needs love a better life.
Many of the dogs, cats, birds and rodents kept at shelters are there because they had previously suffered terribly, Ms Diamond said.
So, thinking about whether your home and lifestyle is suitable for the addition of a pet could be a great decision you make in 2010.
Indeed, her pet has had a positive effect on her life, she added.
"Lucky has truly entertained me this past decade and has definitely rescued me in many more ways than I've rescued her."
Pet health care is something else to think about should you decide to go ahead with pet adoption. Asking an expert can ensure your new family member gets the right vaccinations and treatment.
Animal Friends Insurance, one of the largest independent pet insurers in the UK offer dog insurance, cat insurance and horse insurance to UK residents.
