Pet microchipping clinic to be held

Thursday, 4 March 2010 13:20

A society is holding a microchipping clinic to prevent pet dogs and cats from getting lost.

The clinic, held by the Ottawa Humane Society, is designed to give owners that extra bit of pet insurance by boosting the chances of finding their animal if it goes missing.

Pets that are taken to be microchipped will have a grain-sized microchip implanted under their skin, with the device holding identification information that cannot be lost or become unreadable like a traditional tag or collar might.

The society advises animal lovers "to take precautions by ensuring that if their dog or cat becomes lost, it has the best possible chance of a safe return."

While there is a charge for each appointment, the proceeds gathered will be used to benefit animals at the society.

Previously, a vet talking to the Oxford Mail about a dog that was found four months after it had gone missing, said that without the pet's microchip there would simply have been no way of knowing where it came from.

Animal Friends are a specialist pet insurance company providing dog insurance and cat insurance to British pet owners since 1999 and we now offer horse insurance too.
