Consider pet health care before adoption, says expert

Pet health care should be one of the main considerations for anyone thinking about adding an animal to their household.
This is according to a new article in the Journal Gazette, which quoted Fort Wayne Animal Care and Control community relations and education specialist Peggy Bender as saying that the first step prior to getting a pet is to make sure everyone is in agreement about it.
Nobody should have to be talked into adopting one, she added, going on to say that all tasks related to owning the pet should then be listed and thought carefully about.
This includes feeding, walking, brushing and cleaning, as well as letting it out at regular intervals. It is also a good idea to expose each member of the family to the animal's hair, in case anyone is allergic.
"The pet coming into that household needs stability to make it work," Ms Bender stated, noting that other costs, such as veterinary bills and dental care, need to be factored into the decision.
Dog adoption may also involve inspectors visiting your home to check it is suitable for the breed of dog you want to take care of.
