Pet dog helps cancer survivor make 'fresh start'

Ethical insurance holders are likely to have their hearts warmed by the story of Mary Williams, who says her pet dog is helping her make a fresh start after overcoming cancer.

Speaking to PeoplePets.com, she explains how after she underwent several surgeries for breast cancer, her family brought home a four-month-old schnauzer called Brigs.

To Ms Williams, the pooch represented a new perspective on life and "it was like a breath of fresh air".

Brigs is now nearly four years old and regularly goes out jogging with his owner and her husband, helping them all to get enough exercise.

In addition, he competes at dog shows, winning the Best of Opposite Sex title at Westminster last year.

But when he is in between competitions, he "pretty much runs the household".

"He just has that little sparkle in his eye," Ms Williams says.

Dogs can make wonderful companions, although it is important to thoroughly consider what type and age is most suitable for your household before signing any papers.

Animal Friends Insurance, one of the largest independent pet insurers in the UK offer dog insurance, cat insurance and horse insurance to UK residents.
