Nominate your pet dog for a pooch prize!

Dogs Trust is now accepting nominations for pooches whose owners believe are worthy of a very special award.

The organisation, which cares for about 16,000 canines annually, is offering prizes for five categories, each celebrating the special bond people have with their four-legged friends.

The Golden Oldie is an award for a dog over seven years old, while Dogged Devotion is the label the most emotionally supportive canine will receive.

Dog Star in the Making will be given to the most talented pet, with the Sun Hero Dog title given to a pooch who has displayed "barksome bravery".

The final gong is for the best Celebrity Canine.

Each of the winners will be invited to a ceremony in June and then photographed for a gallery exhibition.

"Our awards celebrate the very special things which dogs give us - and I don't just mean the chewed slippers," said Dogs Tust executive Clarissa Baldwin.

"Let's rejoice in all things canine and give our hirsute heroes the recognition they deserve."

Animal Friends Insurance, one of the largest independent pet insurers in the UK offer dog insurance, cat insurance and horse insurance to UK residents.
