Pet dog database aims to find 'perfect match'

Thursday, 25 February 2010 18:20

A pet dog database will aim to find perfect breeding matches for people's pets.

Pet dog owners will soon be able to find their pets the perfect partner by accessing a specifically designed database that will assess the impact that a proposed partnership may have on the breed.

The database, called Mate Select, will in the future enable breeders to select their dog a mating partner that will give the greatest chance of a healthy yield of puppies.

Caroline Kisko of the Kennel Club, which will be providing access to the programme, indicated that the database will not only help match mates, but will also link puppies with future puppy owners.

Ms Kisko said: "People do a lot of thinking about their perfect partner but dogs’ needs are relatively simple - to find a mate that will give them healthy puppies, which will then be matched with loving owners."

The Kennel Club is currently holding an exhibition into two lesser known breeds of dog entitled Two Dissimilar Breeds: The French Bulldog & Schipperke in Art.
