Kennel Club highlights gundog success

Wednesday, 3 March 2010 17:20

The Kennel Club has highlighted the success of a dog training scheme for gundogs and revealed more handlers than ever took and passed the Working Gundog Certificate in 2009.

Last year, the certificate was made available to novice handlers of two dog breeds - the retriever and the spaniel, as well as young handlers.

The certificate forms part of the Kennel Club's Fit for Function: Fit for Life campaign.

The organisation paid tribute to the role played by other societies and clubs in achieving the 90 per cent pass rate.

It said: "The working certificate's success has been possible due to the loyal support of the London Cocker Spaniel Society, the German Shorthaired Pointer Club and the Mid Sussex Working Spaniel Society."

A presentation of the certificates will take place at DFS Crufts 2010. Earlier this week it was announced that the dedicated Crufts radio station, DFS Crufts FM, would be moving to a new frequency - 87.7FM - for this year's show.
