Couple 'mystified' as to how pet dog survived

Tuesday, 2 March 2010 14:15

An 18-month-old pet dog was reunited with her owners after disappearing for four months and turning up 30 miles away from home.

Lee Webb and Liz Morgan's Jack Russell terrier, Sadie, disappeared in October from the Black Horse pub in Oxfordshire.

The couple thought she had run into the nearby woodland and recruited 35 volunteers to help them search for the puppy - but to no avail.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, Mr Webb said: "We were distraught. It was worse not knowing [what had happened]."

But four months after Sadie's disappearance, the couple received a call from Langley Police Station in Slough. Sadie had been handed in to the station and a scan for a microchip had identified Mr Webb and Miss Morgan as her owners.

Sadie's tale highlights the need to have your pet dog microchipped.

Vet Claire Helyar, speaking to the Oxford Mail, said: "Without the chip, no-one would have known where Sadie came from when she turned up miles away."
