Sick cat referred back to vet

Further pet health care is likely to be required for a cat who cannot keep a meal down.

This is the advice of Canwest News Service expert Bernhard Pukay, who was asked by a reader what he thought the problem might be.

The feline is two years old and can digest small amounts of food but nothing more. A vet has already tested the animal but did not find any problems.

However, Dr Pukay said there is almost certainly something that has been missed - and further tests may determine what.

"There are many reasons for a cat to vomit or regurgitate and I would strongly recommend that you revisit your veterinarian to try to get to the root of this problem," he advised.

Another problem recently dealt with by Dr Pukay was how to stop cats destroying, eating or defecating on plants.

He said a water hose or herb called rue can deter animals, but owners must avoid using toxic substances such as mothballs, as they can be dangerous to plants, humans and other living things.
