Man charged with killing cats

Wednesday, 3 March 2010 17:30

A man employed as a pet health care giver has been arrested after allegedly killing two cats.

The man, who was employed at a cat and dog rescue centre in Monmouth, New Jersey, has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Daniel Mann, 31, was arrested after two employees said they saw him kill two cats on Monday, March 1st.

The two employees claim Mr Mann, of Belmar, strangled one cat and threw another headfirst into the ground.

Mr Mann is being held at Monmouth County jail.

The accused had been an employee at the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for around 18 months.

In the US, the charges carry a possible sentence of three to five years in prison.

The UK's Animal Welfare Act can see anyone who is cruel to an animal, or does not provide for its welfare needs, being banned from owning animals, fined up to £20,000 and potentially sent to prison.
