Kitten 'dumped in suitcase'

A kitten has been discovered abandoned in a suitcase in the East Midlands, in what pet health care officials describe as a "callous" act.
The Nottingham Evening Post reports that the tabby and white female feline was dumped in the luggage by a rubbish bin and discovered by a member of the public.
The RSPCA told the newspaper the kitty was in good health, although they could not determine who her owner was or how long she had been living in the suitcase.
"There is never any excuse for an animal to be treated in this way so we hope we can track down whoever is responsible for this heartless behaviour," inspector Teresa Potter said.
It was recently reported by the Swindon Advertiser that pet health care officials in the area were on the alert after two separate cases of abandoned kittens occurred within days of each other.
Inspector Steph Daly said the incidents were often more common after Christmas when people "foolishly" purchased a kitten as a festive gift, only to lose interest in the new year.
