Caring for a Young Kitten Blog about Pet Animals
Pet insurance is not the only thing you will need to think about once you have bought your kitten home. You will have to change their bedding often because it will be soiled. You should always make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before and after you handle the kitten. All items associated with taking care of the kitten should be kept clean. All items used for feeding the kitten should be thoroughly washed and sterilized in hot water.
You will need a sturdy container with a lid to keep your kitten in while you transport him home. You can use a strong cardboard box or a see through plastic tub. Cut a large section out of the lid and place screening over the hole. Then secure the screen with strong tape.
You can also put small air holes along the sides of the container. This allows the kitten to get fresh air whilst keeping them safe from injury and harm. If you are using a cardboard box without a lid you can cover the top with a towel. You can use clothespins to secure the towel. Just be sure you leave a small gap so the kitten will be able to get fresh air.
When your kitten is old enough you should take them to the vet to make sure they get vaccinated and are healthy. Your kitten should also be spayed or neutered when they are old enough. Besides feeding and caring for your kitten you should hold them and talk to them to create that special bond.
Raising a newborn or orphaned kitten is a very rewarding experience. It is very satisfying to watch the kitten you once held in the palm of your hand turn into a loving healthy cat. Hand raised cats are very comfortable with people and make the perfect lap kitty.
