Why Is My Pet Dog Always Barking?
Your dog barking constantly will begin to grate on your nerves and also on your neighbours'. This is especially true if the dog seems to be barking for no good reason. There are several ways in which you can train your dog to stop barking incessantly.
No matter what form of dog training you use, you want to make sure you use positive reinforcement. Never hit the dog or shout or scream at them, this will not help and may make your dog have more behavioural problems in the future.
Some dogs bark out of restlessness or from being lonely. One way I have found to help when a dog is constantly barking is to counteract his barking with another noise. You can use a small metal can and put some stones or coins in it. When your dog barks, rattle the can. The noise will startle the dog and he will stop barking. If the dog is persistent it may take several times to get them to stop.
I actually used this method on my neighbour's Chihuahua puppy. I live in the country and have a lot of animals including many outdoor cats. The puppy from next door would come up to my property line and just stand there and bark at the cats. My cats have been raised with dogs and didn't even look up when he started barking.
This went on for several days. My neighbours never came out or tried to quieten the dog down. On the third day, I had had enough and went in search of a can and some rocks. It took me probably a couple hours to finally get the message across to him, but I am very patient. I can happily say that it has been over a week and all is quiet in my neighbourhood.
A person can also use other methods to stop a dog from barking constantly. The sooner you stop the bad habit the easier it will be for you to train them properly. By using patience, being consistent and positive in your training method, you will soon be able to enjoy the peace and quiet.
