Travelling with Your Dog

If you are planning on taking a road trip and have decided to take along your dog, here are some tips to make the journey easier on both of you. Besides packing for yourself you should also pack a bag for your dog and also check your dog insurance policy is up to date. Some of the items you should bring along include water and food, dishes, a leash and grooming items.

Other things that should be taken, include vaccination records and any medications. Your dog should have a collar with an identification tag on it. Make sure that your cell phone number is on the tag so you can be reached during your travels.

Before taking off on your holiday you should do some research and look for pet friendly hotels . If you are making reservations you should always make sure to ask about their pet policy. During your trip your dog should be kept in a pet carrier.

You will have to make frequent stops to allow your dog to relieve themselves and to get out and exercise. If your dog isn t used to being in a carrier you should start putting them in one in your home to get them used to it.

You will also want to get your dog used to riding in a car if they have never been in one before. This is true especially if you are planning a long road trip. Start out way before your planned trip and gradually make longer trips with your pet so they are not stressed by being in a car. Remember, never leave your pet in a parked car, no matter what time of year it may be.

Travelling with a pet can be a wonderful experience, for all of you, if you plan ahead. Pets enjoy taking holidays too!
