Scottish SPCA to educate on rabbit pet health care

The Scottish SPCA has begun a new initiative in order to educate animal lovers of the pet health care involved in owning a bunny.

To this end, the charity is holding a Rabbit Awareness Day at all its local branches on Saturday July 24th.

According to the organisation, the event will allow visitors the chance to get to know some of the many long-eared creatures in its care which are seeking a home.

Moreover, the SPCA is expanding its free education programme, in the hopes of explaining the commitment involved when taking in a bunny.

"Rabbits are often given to children as gifts. They can be great fun at first but when the novelty of a new pet wears off the parents are often left to ... care for the rabbit, which can live for over eight years," chief superintendent Mike Flynn said, noting that the specially-designed day should leave visitors informed as to their choices.

Meanwhile, hutches should be moved out of direct sunlight in hot months and into the shade.

Animal Friends are a specialist pet insurance company providing dog insurance and cat insurance to British pet owners since 1999 and we now offer horse insurance too.
