Pet insurance "makes sense"

Thursday, 25 February 2010 16:20

One vet has discussed pet insurance and said it makes sense for owners to take out a suitable policy.

Pete Wedderburn is the Telegraph's resident expert on all things animal-related. He said because there is no equivalent of the NHS for pets, people can be hit financially if their cat, dog or other furry friend becomes ill unexpectedly.

However, with pet insurance, such an effect could be avoided.

"In the even of a serious health crisis for your pet, you can afford the best care regardless of the state of your bank balance at that moment," Mr Wedderburn explained.

He regularly gives answers to reader queries and last week listed ten top tips for fostering a better relationship with your vet.

Preparing for each appointment and listing questions you need to ask, booking times at quieter periods and feeling free to say when you do not understand something were all suggested.

Animal Friends are a specialist pet insurance company providing dog insurance and cat insurance to British pet owners since 1999 and we now offer horse insurance too.
