Pet dogs recovering from mystery illness

A pair of pet dogs are recovering after catching a mystery disease that is believed to be contracted in woodland.

Three-year-old labrador Holly and her five-year-old sister Daisy, who are owned by Richard and Toni Lane of Hertingfordbury, both received treatment after showing signs of illness, the Hertfordshire Mercury reports.

Holly was nearly killed by the ailment - symptoms of which include diarrhoea and dehydration - and Ms Lane thanked experts at the Royal Veterinary College for saving the life of her pooch.

"We want other dog owners to be alerted to it and if they notice anything like it in their pets, to get it treated," she added.

The couple believe the disease was caught when they took their dogs for a walk in the woods and a spokeswoman for the Forestry Commission told the news source signs are being put up to raise awareness among pet dog owners.

Pet health care expert Dr Pete Wedderburn recenrty said in his Telegraph column that it is important to seek professional help when tackling issues such as the behaviour of cats or dogs.
