Pet dog and cat owners given diabetes warning

Owners of pet dogs and cats need to be aware of diabetes, as instances of the condition are on the rise.
Figures from veterinarians indicate one in every 200 felines and 500 canines are affected, CBS4 reports.
Speaking to the news source, Alison Flynn-Lurie with Miami Vet Specialists noted Type 1 diabetes is more common in hounds, while Type 2 tends to affect cats.
And she said that even if animals are found to have the ailment, proper pet health care can ensure they live long and happy lives.
"By no means is it a death sentence," Ms Flynn-Lurie remarked, noting indoor cats may be more susceptible to diabetes than their outdoor counterparts.
Symptoms to look out for are hair and weight loss, hunger and if your animal is drinking more than usual.
Depression is another illness pets can suffer from just like humans and Jennifer Aniston's pooch Norman was recently diagnosed as a sufferer.
Animal Friends are a specialist pet insurance company providing dog insurance and cat insurance to British pet owners since 1999 and we now offer horse insurance too.
