Choosing a pet dog 'a family decision'

A specialist has asserted that when it comes to buying a pet dog, every single family member should be involved in the decision or there could be regrets down the line.

Dori Villalon from the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said each person in a household should have their total say in the matter and voice their preferences - and steps must be taken to guarantee nobody is an allergy sufferer.

Also important to do as a family is deciding who is going to be in charge of the different chores and responsibilities.

"Before you adopt, map out who will care for the pet and how," Ms Villalon added.

Experts have also warned in the past that even though allotting a child with one part of the care of the animal is a good idea, parents must be absolutely prepared to pick up the slack at any time so the creature does not end up suffering the consequences of the fickleness of youth.
